Driving Instructors That Tailor Lessons to Your Needs
We understand that people lead busy lives these days, which is why we always try and offer driving lessons at a time that fits around your requirements. Covering most areas in West and South Yorkshire, including Skipton (Addingham, Barnoldswick, Bolton Abbey, Gargrave, Grassington, Ilkley), Keighley, Bradford, Leeds (Including Leeds City Centre, Woodhouse, Hyde Park, Burley Park, Headingley, Meanwood, Weetwood, Kirkstall, Horsforth) and Wakefield, our team will always do their best to schedule your driving lessons at the most convenient time.
The people that we help to learn to drive are, as you would expect, keen to get to the promised land of a full UK driving licence and we will always strive to get you a pass quickly and at the first time of asking. However, what’s most important is that you learn to drive safely, for the good of yourself and everyone else on the road. Rest assured that when we think you’re ready, we won’t hesitate to put you in for your driving test.
Comprehensive Driving Lessons
Unlike many other driving schools, we offer the full gamut of driving test tuition. Many mainstream companies only offer Cat B driving training, which is essentially a standard full UK driving licence that allows you to drive vehicles weighing up to 3.5 Tonnes.
Of course, we offer Cat B driving training too, but we also provide tuition for a variety of different purposes from driving with a trailer to professional lorry driving. Read on to find out what each type of training covers and what it enables you to drive.
Class 1 & 2 HGV Driver Training - If you’re looking to drive a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) (a.k.a. Large Goods Vehicle (LGV)) as a professional, you’ll need to hold at least a Class 2 licence for standard Cat C vehicles. To qualify to be able to train to drive vehicles from the C+E categories, you’ll need a Class 2 licence first. Our team has the expertise and know-how to guide you through the entire process and realise your professional HGV driving ambitions.
Bus & Minibus Driver Training (PCV) - Anyone with a standard Cat B licence is able to drive a minibus designed to carry up to 8 passengers without the need for any additional training or licensing. Should you need to drive a bus or minibus that carries more than this amount, you’re going to need a PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) licence. A Category D1 will cover you to drive vehicles that carry 9-16 passengers, with anything over that quantity requiring a Category D PCV licence. Again, our DVSA approved instructors have the knowledge and training to give you the skills you need.
Car & Trailer Training - If you need to drive a car with a trailer attached that weighs more than 750kg, you’ll need to take extra tuition to do so legally. This is also the case if your car plus the trailer weighs in at more than 3.5 Tonnes - as per the rules governing HGV licences. This comes in the form of category B+E training, which will then allow you to drive your car with a much greater range of trailers and caravans. There are some extra rules regarding whether you passed your test prior to 2013, so we’d recommend having a chat with us about the finer details.
CPC Module 2 + 4 PCV and HGV - When you’ve passed your HGV test, you’re required by law to then take Initial CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) training before you’re allowed to drive professionally. Once you’ve passed this element, you’re given a CPC card that’s valid for 5 years. It’s then your responsibility to keep that card valid by taking 35 hours of ‘Periodic’ CPC training before that 5 year period expires and your CPC becomes invalid. At Pip’s School of Motoring, we can help you with both Initial and Periodic CPC.
Free Theory Test Training (Theory Test Pro App) - We’re keen to help everyone we can to achieve their full license, which includes the theory element to the test. You can practice your highway code to your heart’s content using our Theory Test Pro App so that you can be absolutely sure that you know every road sign, stopping distance and overtaking rule that you need to get your pass and stay safe on the road.
How it Works
When you choose Pip’s School of Motoring for your driver training needs, it couldn’t be easier to identify and begin your tuition. Let’s take you through our on-boarding process.
Step 1 - Choose the ideal training for your needs
The first step to the process is to get in touch with us so that we can identify the right training for your needs. You can do so in a number of ways. Firstly, you could call us on 07538 736976, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or fill out our contact form. We’re also on social media, which means that you can also find us on Facebook or Instagram. During this initial chat, we’ll centre in on exactly what it is you’re trying to achieve.
Step 2 - A One Hour Assessment
Everybody is different when it comes to driving aptitude, so it’s important to gauge your skill level. We do this by conducting a 1-hour assessment lesson to determine exactly where you are and the level of training that you are going to need. This session is also a good time during which to answer any queries you might have about what to expect from whichever licensing journey you’re about to embark on.
Step 3 - We Will Book Your Test For You (Test Fee Included with Training)
The final step on your driving tuition journey is the one where we book your test for you. The good news is that the relevant test fee for the licence you’re taking is included with the training cost. We’ll discuss with you the appropriate time for your test to be taken, incorporating how confident you feel and how well we think you’re doing. Then, when we think you’re ready, with your permission, we’ll book your test and inform you of the date.
